Corrosion resistance

The corrosion resistance of 1.4401 is by adding 2-3 % molybdenum significantly better than that of stainless steels like 1.4301 and 1.4307, especially in absence of chlorides. In natural environmental media (water, rural and urban atmosphere), as well as in industrial areas with moderate chlorine and salt concentrations in the food industry and in the agricultural food sector, 1.4401 has an excellent corrosion resistance. 1.4401 is not resistant to intergranular corrosion and seawater.

Welding

  • Weldable with or without filler metal
  • Due to the relatively high carbon content, it is possible to form chromium carbides, which reduce the resistance to intergranular corrosion
